RONR does not mention past presidents.

Once the resignation is accepted, the former immediate past president is no longer the immediate past president. The person who just resigned is the immediate past president. There can only be one immediate past president at a time and it's always the person who just used to be president. It doesn't matter how or why he left that office.

It doesn't matter as far as the title is concerned (presuming the bylaws actually contain such a title) but some reasons, such as leaving the country, going to prison, being lost at sea, or eaten by dingoes tend to have a negative effect on projected attendance.

Picking a nit here, but bRENDA didn't actually refer to "immediate" past president, although we could suspect that's what she meant.

return to the executive with the Title of Past President,

when there is still the Past President in office who was the past president of the resigning president.

There is no such title as "past president" within the 700+ pages of RONR (10th ed. 2000).

So The Book won't have anything to say specifically for such a title.

If your bylaws, constitution, or other documents of governance define the position, then look to those documents for a solution.

Look for a definition of how one becomes a "past president".

Look for a defined "term of office".

Look for who appoints/elects whom.

Just like any other office or position, you have got to know when people are in office, and when people are out of office.

The Book won't know anything so customized as a start/end of a term of office for a non-elected, non-appointed position.

As the ? is this person "immediate past president" the answer is yes. The president resignation reaason was 'CONFLICT OF INTEREST". Another pasrt of this question is whether the person resigning , resigned as president only and/or from the Executive Committee. Thanks for your timely replies. Appreciated!
