resignation

If a member must resign for whatever reason before their term is up, how is that member's position filled for the remainder of their term?

Check your bylaws to see if there's any provision for filling a mid-term vacancy (e.g. appointment by the board or president). If there's nothing there, you'll need to fill it the way you usually do (e.g. by election). Notice of the election is required.

The party who did the original electing or appointing is the party who fills vacancies.

This might imply that you give notice that a vacancy exists in that position. That might imply a special meeting being called (if special meetings are allowed per your bylaws). With luck, you can fill the vacancy at the next regular meeting (assuming no notice is required, assuming you meet with timely regularity).

Exceptions are possible. - If you were to have a board empowered to fill vacancies, then the board would fill the vacancy, not the original party who did the original electing.
