can you accept a nomination for a board position if you were absent from the meeting. also, if you are the president and running for president with an opponent and there is a tie. who is the tiebreaking vote.

Yes, you can accept (or decline) the nomination later, according to RONR, unless there is some special requirement in your society's bylaws. Sometimes there is, so check to see.

If there is a tie, and your bylaws have no special tie-breaking process, then the election is held again (second ballot, third ballot, ... nth ballot) until someone receives a majority vote.
