Robert B Fish Posted December 4, 2010 at 06:43 PM Report Share Posted December 4, 2010 at 06:43 PM If your bylaws require the election be by (secret) ballot, that requirement may not be waived, even by unanimous consent or an actual unanimous vote. While you have the absolute right to abstain from voting by turning in a blank ballot, others might feel differently and could write-in another candidate. A majority of those present and voting is required for election.-Bob

Can election be done by acclimation? When it is required by the bylaws to use a ballot vote, then election cannot be done by acclamation. You would need to have an exception listed in the bylaws to allow this, either for all offices or for any office. But many organizations DO have such an exception, so if you haven't checked your own bylaws recently, this might be the time to do so.
