David A Foulkes Posted December 8, 2010 at 03:24 AM Report Share Posted December 8, 2010 at 03:24 AM During a meeting how many different people can assume the duties of the chair?Assuming you don't mean having multiple "chair" people at once (which would be a bad idea, to put it mildly), it would depend a bit on whether the President vacated the chair or was absent, and if a Vice-President was available to be the chair pro tem. In the absence of both, the assembly would elect a chair pro tem, and could even elect a new one if they thought better of their first choice. They could probably go through the entire membership this way until they got one they liked. (see RONR 10th Ed., page 437, items 2 and 3)So, how many members do you have? Josh Martin Posted December 8, 2010 at 04:22 AM Report Share Posted December 8, 2010 at 04:22 AM During a meeting how many different people can assume the duties of the chair? There is no limit. In theory, every individual present could assume the duties of the chair for a portion of the meeting, although there should only be one chair at any given moment in time.In practice, however, it should be very rare for more than a few people to play musical chairs. What is the situation which gives rise to this question? So, how many members do you have? The position of Chairman Pro Tempore is not limited to members. Kim Goldsworthy Posted December 8, 2010 at 06:52 AM Report Share Posted December 8, 2010 at 06:52 AM During a meeting how many different people can assume the duties of the chair? One at a time.It isn't tag-team wrestling, you know. But, in theory, you could have Miss Scarlet at 8:00, Col. Mustard at 8:05, Prof. Plum at 8:10, Mr. Green at 8:15, Mrs. White at 8:20, Mrs. Peacock at 8:25. And cycle through, again.Q. Why would you want a cast of thousands as your presiding officer? Is everybody that eager to grab the gavel and go to town?It is so hard to find people who know parliamentary procedure well enough to chair a meeting. And you have dozens to choose from?!?Or is the Guinness World Record team in town, again?
