Rob Elsman Posted December 14, 2010 at 01:26 AM Report Share Posted December 14, 2010 at 01:26 AM Our by laws state the president appoints committee chairs and members. Can the chair ask someone to be on the committee and will they be allow to vote on that committee? When the bylaws prescribe that the president appoints the members of committees, there should be an explicit exception with respect to the nominating committee. The president should never be a member of, nor appoint the members of, a nominating committee. It is best that the electing body should elect the members of the nominating committee; however, when the general membership assembly is the electing body, and it is not practical for it to elect the members of the nominating committee, the executive board can be empowered in the bylaws to elect them. See RONR (10th ed.), pp. 419, 561.
