Guest dillard105 Posted December 14, 2010 at 04:16 PM Report Share Posted December 14, 2010 at 04:16 PM Do you have to or should you record a motion that died due to lack of a second in the official minutes?

The president is not prohibited from taking notes but he should stick to presiding and let the secretary (pro tem) take the notes (i.e. the minutes). Trina Posted December 14, 2010 at 06:19 PM Report Share Posted December 14, 2010 at 06:19 PM If the secretary is absent from a meeting does the president takes the notes or is he/she prohibited from taking notes. The assembly should elect a secretary pro tem (someone to act as secretary for that meeting). Having the chair carry out the function of secretary also is probably not a good idea (i.e. the assembly should elect someone else to be secretary pro tem), simply because that's too many functions at once -- a single person is unlikely to do a competent job of being chair and secretary simultaneously.Nothing prohibits the president (or any other member) from 'taking notes' during a meeting, should they wish to do so.
