hmtcastle Posted December 16, 2010 at 10:02 PM Report Share Posted December 16, 2010 at 10:02 PM If a member is present but does not vote and does not abstain, how is their vote recorded? It isn't.If a member doesn't vote then there's no vote to record. And abstaining means not voting. So if you don't vote, you're abstaining (from voting). See also FAQ @6.
Tim Wynn Posted December 17, 2010 at 12:27 AM Report Share Posted December 17, 2010 at 12:27 AM If a member is present but does not vote and does not abstain, how is their vote recorded?Abstain means to not vote. So, this member has abstained. Do not record this fact.Note that, in general, individual votes are not recorded in the minutes, just the outcome. Josh Martin Posted December 17, 2010 at 01:03 AM Report Share Posted December 17, 2010 at 01:03 AM If a member is present but does not vote and does not abstain, how is their vote recorded? The only reason this would be recorded is if you're taking a roll call vote and you must note the member's presence in order to demonstrate the presence of a quorum. In such a case, he would be recorded as "Present" along with the other abstentions.
Gary Novosielski Posted December 17, 2010 at 03:49 AM Report Share Posted December 17, 2010 at 03:49 AM If a member is present but does not vote and does not abstain, how is their vote recorded?Since they did not vote, their vote does not exist, so it cannot be recorded. But it's impossible to not vote and not abstain. If you do not vote, you have abstained from voting. You cannot simultaneously not vote and not not vote.
