Does the Chairman assign or nominate or is there a vote?Check your bylaws. If there is no provision for filling a mid-term vacancy (e.g. appointment by the president or by the board), you'll have to hold a special election (i.e. you'll have to elect a new secretary the same way you elected the old secretary). Kim Goldsworthy Posted December 21, 2010 at 03:54 AM Report Share Posted December 21, 2010 at 03:54 AM Our secretary resigned. How do we fill that position? The steps are, according to Robert's Rules of Order:1. give notice that you are filling the officer position of Secretary (to the body who did the original electing).2. have the appropriate body hold an election.Does the Chairman assign, or nominate, or is there a vote?• There is a vote -- by the body who did the original electing.• A chairman does not fill officer positions. As always, if your bylaws already give a process, then the default process of Robert's Rules may not apply.
