Motion for no discussion

Can a motion be made that asks for a vote on a topic be taken with no discussion?

The situation involves having a vote to dismiss a pastor, in which it would be best

not to have all the dirty laundry aired in public. So if the motion passes, then the

vote is taken without discussion.

See FAQ #11.

But unless you debate the removal of the pastor, how will you know you're making the right decision?

And there's no need to "air dirty laundry in public". Only the members of the body with the authority to remove the pastor have a right to attend the meeting. So tell the public to keep out.

Yes.

You make the motion, and in making the motion, specify that you are suspending the rules and you add the words "agree to".

See the example on page 253.

Such a motion [to Suspend the Rules], for instance, may be [...] “to suspend the rules and agree to [that is, to adopt without debate or amendment] the resolution ...”]

If your desire is simply to avoid airing the dirty laundry in public, entering executive session seems like the better solution. Taking a vote on such a serious topic with no debate seems unwise.
