Guest Lorraine Makatura Posted January 5, 2011 at 02:13 PM Report Share Posted January 5, 2011 at 02:13 PM I am president of a marching band booster club at our high school. We have by-laws that state anyone interested in running for anoffice must have attended a minimum of 3 regular meetings througoutthe year. Elections are held in May. Our band director wants toeliminate the 3 meeting requirement in order to open up the interestand availability for nominees to the offices. Can we change theby-laws in the middle of a year? Our "fiscal" year runs June to May,with new officers taking over in June.
hmtcastle Posted January 5, 2011 at 02:17 PM Report Share Posted January 5, 2011 at 02:17 PM Can we change the by-laws in the middle of a year? You can change the bylaws whenever you want, as long as your follow your rules for changing (i.e. amending) them. The fiscal year, or any other year, is probably irrelevant. And you might want to change the requirement for "running for office" to a requirement" for "holding office". See this related topic.
