FrogMN60 Posted January 17, 2011 at 11:16 PM Report Share Posted January 17, 2011 at 11:16 PM At a General Membership meeting following the Board's meeting for a Lake Association, can the Board members also make new motions or is this reserved for general members because the Board already has had opportunities to make motions and brings the agenda to the general membership? (Or should this have been made clear in the original bylaws?) Thanks for any input

(Or should this have been made clear in the original bylaws?) Thanks for any inputAt a general membership meeting, the Board, as such, is not present, because it is not in session. Individuals who happen to be members of the board, presuming they are also members of the society of course, can attend, make motions, debate, and vote like anyone else, but only as individual members. Perhaps they had a motion they wanted to bring to the assembly, but couldn't get a majority of the board to agree.

In sound bite form:• A board member does not lose any rights of (general) membership, just because he wear an extra hat and sits on the board.• No board member is violating any rule within Robert's Rules if he actively advocates his position/opinion at a general membership meeting, even so soon after he did likewise in a board meeting.
