harjitjaswal Posted January 23, 2011 at 10:29 PM Report Share Posted January 23, 2011 at 10:29 PM Cut off date for receiving the applications for nominations was set up which is passed. Few people applied. Nomination committee want to bring one person so they cancelled all other applications and are going to acclaim the one at general meeting as he is the only one left. Majority of general members do not like him though. Constitution says in case of dispute robert's rule of order shall prevail. What can these general members do to stop this acclamation. What can these general members do to stop this acclamation. The nomination committee does not get to perfrom coronations. They get to supply a recommendation which the members are free to accept or reject. After the report of the nomination committee is received, the chair should automatically ask for nominations from the floor. If he fails to do so, a member should move to open nominations. A second, and a majority vote are required to open nominations, so you should have no problem there.Members may each then nominate an additional name for the office, without seeking recognition, and without requiring a second. When no further nominations are forthcoming, the chair may (without objection) declare nominations closed. If there is an objection, a motion to Close Nominations may be made. It requires a second, and a 2/3 vote. It is not in order while another member is seeking to make a nomination.
