I typed up this cheat sheet based on RONR and Sarah Cooper's 100 Tricks to Appear Smart in Meetings (http://www.100tricks.com).   I wonder whether people have found such summaries useful during meetings.

I would tend to agree with Mr. Brown that the powers and duties of the sergeant at arms, in this case, would have to be restricted to board meeting and would not extend to general meetings of the society.

Would it be right to state that for these positions that have permanent or semi-permanent tasks the rules for standing committees apply?

Amusing ideas!  I was thinking more along the lines of examples of minutes of well-run meetings after he had learnt about parliamentary procedure.   I found a copy of his "Parliamentary Law" which has tons of illustrations.

We have a society of about 4000 members.  Recently we held an extraordinary general meeting to amend our bylaws.  The meeting agreed that polling would be done via secret ballot.  The chairman adjourned the meeting and the team of scrutineers collected and tallied the ballots.  The scrutineers submitted their report to the chairman during lunch and the chairman announced the result during lunch.   The chief scrutineer said that she is a registered company secretary and it is common for publicly listed companies to announce the result of a poll after the meeting has adjourned and so it should be okay for a society to do so as well.    This makes no sense to me.  Is this practice common in other societies?
