The President resigns mid term

We have a President whom has just resigned after three months of office. History of the President, served prior two one year terms.

He would like to remain on the Executive Board as immediate past President, or would the past President (not this person) be entitled to this position?

Thank you,

Mark

The person who just resigned is the immediate past president.

As to who's entitled to which position, you'll have to look to your bylaws for the answer. RONR grants no special status to former officers.

Q. What is your bylaws' definition of your board membership?

If there is no listing of "IPP" then you are spinning your wheels.

Either way, there is NO SUCH TERM as "past president" or "immediate past _____" [anything] in Robert's Rules of Order Newly Revised [RONR 10th ed. 2000]. So The Book won't help you sort out the difference between one's PP vs. IPP, if any.

To drop the other shoe ...

If there is anyone you know who thinks that the immediate past president gets to sit anywhere due to some rule in Robert's Rules of Order, then that person is sadly mistaken. :(:(
