Guest Jan Posted February 23, 2020 at 05:00 AM Report Share Posted February 23, 2020 at 05:00 AM Our HOA board consists of nine members serving three year terms. Can a board member run for reelection before their term expires in order achieve staggered terms? In the upcoming election, two positions would be filled for a three-year period with new board members. A current board member would run for reelection so that her term would be extended three more years even if her terms does not expire until 2021. If she wins, there will be a vacancy to fill in her current position.

Just to be clear: She is currently holding a position with a three-year term 2018-2021. If she runs and is elected to a position this year, her term will be 2020-2023 (and, as Mr. Martin has noted, there will be a vacancy in her original position, with one year left in that term). I mention this because the OP's quote above sounds like someone thinks that her term would be extended for three years after her current 2018-2021 term ends (ie: 2021-2024).
