Guest Nick Fuego Posted May 27, 2010 at 12:03 PM Report Share Posted May 27, 2010 at 12:03 PM Can a non board member present at a meeting - in this case a member of admin present at a school board personnel committee meeting - point out a point of order and instruct the board on what is or isn't within there power. In this case a member of admin blocked the ability of a newly appointed board member from voting on a committee that he had requested to serve on because a. his appointment would cause the committee to stand at an even number b. his appointment had been made by the board chair and approved by the committee chair, but not voted on by the school board. The odd/even question was immediately dropped when it was challenged, but challenge b stood - allowing a member of admin to control the voting members present and effect the outcome of the process. Trina Posted May 27, 2010 at 12:05 PM Report Share Posted May 27, 2010 at 12:05 PM Non-members cannot raise a point of order.ETA: However, if the organization's rules give the administration such powers, then those rules supersede what is said in RONR.
