  1. I just had a conversation with the President. It did not go well. I guess I’m quitting the board. I don’t feel I have a choice now.
  2. I really appreciate this place, and the people who take the time to answer questions. It was also very nice to come back after over 2 years and see many of the same friendly faces.
  3. I have that one as well as dummies as well as possibly a full text but they are buried having been boxed up after a flood a year ago Digging them out of the garage this weekend
  4. Since it is specified in our by laws, doesn’t a refusal to use RONR equal a breach of fiduciary duty? RONR is the only thing that keeps meetings fair.
  5. Can one or more board members h just choose to disregard that we have a parliamentary process, or refuse to use or acknowledge it?
  6. Our bylaws specify RONR as our parliamentary process for all of our corporate processes, which means all board meetings, since that’s where all of our business takes place.
  7. The chair is who is doing it-which is it’s own challenge.
  8. So the point of order is not called if a personal attack is underway?
  9. And if I can demonstrate why it was out of order, do I get to explain that, and when? Is it when I first call Point of Order? Also: I have an example of what happened at the last meeting that I wanted to call Point of Order for, but felt I could not because I didn’t know how to handle it, also, I’d like to know if you would consider this a personal attack: There was an implication that I had influenced the vendors in such a way that they approved my recommendation because they could not say no to me but there is also another implication that them approving my request was not a professional recommendation even though the vendor has stated that when they approve a request for a client it is a professional recommendation. The implication made was that they were just humoring me and their approval of my request it didn’t actually mean anything. There is also a vague accusation that I was acting in my own interest rather than the community’s, because I recommended as my post required at that time, some trees for planting. I’ve also been accused several times in the past I was “acting like an expert”, because I brought or talked about detailed information about tree stuff, and this time was another time that that was made as well. What is meant by that has not been defined. No evidence for any of the claims or accusations was presented, only vague accusations and implications, and the results of those implications was that the other board members believed that the vendor didn’t take my recommendation seriously, and that basically they were just humoring me, and that my recommendations meant nothing in the professional sense.
  10. In that case, is that when the other board members decide if the call by the president was good or not? Does she get a say in that second tier decision?
  11. Our by-laws specify RONR for all our corporate processes. This board has always been sloppy about using RR at all, never mind properly. We are in CA so there are laws that govern HOAs but they do not dip into how meetings are run, only how people are notified, and what open session vs executive session is as far as public vs secret, and laws concerning who can be a board member and laws re: HOA vs homeowner responsibility for maintence, etc.
  12. Ok. Thank you Do you have any feedback on the question about small boards when the chair is typically allowed to debate and vote, instead of not entering into debate, and only voting only to break a tie?
  13. Hello, I’m wondering if anyone could give examples of what the opposite position would look like.... Meaning examples of a chairperson not being impartial? Does that impartiality apply to small boards where the chair typically debates and votes?
  14. The problem is this: The person I have a problem with is the association president, who acts as chair. The other board members don’t know what a point of order is, or how to handle it, and neither does she.
  15. I see, Well I truly appreciate your input, and I will think about it.
  16. Yes, I know. It’s been a very rough couple of years, with this on top of other things unrelated. I appreciate your concern, it’s just passing the thoughts that come to me when I feel desperate and hopeless about all of this.
  17. That’s not a bad idea, it just doesn’t help me right now I’m not sure exactly what it takes to become an unofficial parliamentarian... do you have any idea how many hours etc.it might take? And also, does it cost a lot to become an official one?
  18. Zev She has been President for several years. The other recent members are less experienced and before that, no one wanted the position. For the last several years it had been pre-arranged with her making agreements with people asking them to elect her to that position and she would elect them to other positions.
