  1. Thank you all! Very helpful. Now I'm just hoping that COVID mandates won't delay our elections again! Blessings!
  2. Thank you, Josh. Can I ask, if several voters write in this candidates name, do their votes have to be a majority of the whole group of voters?
  3. Mr. Lages, I know I read that in RONR, (that one write-in is a majority) but I can't remember where. Can you site it for me?
  4. When there is a "write in" does that automatically elect the candidate if there are no other candidates or does he still need a majority vote?
  5. We are a non profit club whose Election for new officers will be in two weeks. According to our Bylaws, we have closed nominations from the floor, as well as the announcement of all candidates obtained by the Election Committee. Up until today, we have had no candidate for President. Today,a very eligible and capable member has agreed to run. Since all nominations have been closed, how can we add him to the ballot; as a write in? If so, does a member write him in or the Election Committee or do we need a separate ballot?
  6. Thank you all for your responses! To answer some of your questions. First, the donation was given to our Treasurer by our Vice President who had a list of the donors but eould not show it to the Treasurer because they requested to be anonymous and that the donation was to be used for the item ONLY. Second, the club can afford to purchase the item but it would be a stretch. Third, the conflict over the items is that most Board members don't think we need the item and tabled it to be brought to the General Membership. The donation was made a week after that Board motion was made.
  7. Our club received an ANONYMOUS donation (evidently made by several people) to purchase an Item that has been debated and tabled by the Board a number of times. This donation is made to purchase that item only. Some Board members feel that this donation is suspiscous, at the least, to push through something that Board members are conflicted about and has been discussed by the Board and NOT to the membership. This item was tabled to go to our General membership (according to our ByLaws) when we can have a Membership Meeting after COVID . At that meeting we would inform of the cost. Now that the money to purchase has been made, it may be a manipulation by the donors to bypass that ruling. (BTW, the debate on the Board is whether or not our club needs this item and the cost). I'm not sure now if the Board can vote on the purchase if there is a donation for that purchase. Does the Board have the right to ask who the ANONYMOUS donors are? Can the Board vote on accepting the donation?
  8. Thank you for your quick response! Our ByLaws state that it is one of 5 committees FORMED by the President as opposed to 4 committees FORMED by the Board. However, this committee comes to the Board for approval of expenses for supplies, etc.
  9. We have a Board of Directors in our Bocce Club that oversees the committees. Our Bocce committee which is in charge of organizing Leagues and maintaining courts wants to open the courts during COVID. We are under the juristiction of the Park and Rec and the Board has submitted a proposal for opening. There's some disagreement on the Board as to whether we should allow the committee to work with the P and R or do we have the final authority?
