  1. Thanks for helping out Josh and Richard. This is from the In Order Study Guide for the NAP Registration Examination - hard copy. It is Question #349 and the reference in RONR is p. 305 line 10-12. I think there is an error in the Study Guide as it definitely indicates the answer is B which says " it can only be applied to a main motion which has been defeated. This answer sheet must be incorrect but I'll feel even more confident about it if someone agrees with me.
  2. To rescind something previously adopted, it can only be applied to which of the following?: 1. A main motion which has been adopted. or 2. A main motion which has been defeated? The NAP Study Guide for Registration says it's #2 but this seems counter-intuitive to me - I think the answer can only apply to something which has been previously adopted, hence the motion "to rescind something previously adopted." Is the answer sheet in the study guide incorrect or am I?
  3. I've come across it a few times in RONR where it says a motion is adopted with "a majority vote with notice" or a "majority vote of the entire membership." I'm unclear on the what the difference is, especially as it may apply to the Council of only 7 members that I work for. Can someone please clarify? Thanks!
  4. I'm struggling a bit with what is surely a straightforward matter for experienced parliamentarians: RONR 11th Edition p. 179 line 34 states that "...action on a pending question can be put off...until after a certain event." For example, this could mean that a motion is adopted stating that the assembly won't decide whether to proceed with a specific project until after they hear whether their grant application for funding for the project is successful, which will be at some unknown time in the near future (eg. after a certain event). The assembly I work for holds regular meetings on the first and third Thursdays of each month. In what appears to me to conflict with the adopted motion above is p. 183 lines 11-17 which I interpret to mean that the question cannot be postponed until after a "certain event," because the assembly holds regular meetings more frequently than quarterly intervals, and therefore the question must be dealt with at the next regular meeting. Can someone please clarify and set me on the right track here? Thank you.
  5. Thank you both. I still have no idea where the references are!
  6. I am studying for the five RP exams and recently acquired the hard copy Study Guide for NAP Registration Exam, ParlQuest and Nola's Daily Doses. In Nola's Daily Doses, in the section titled Part II: Motions and Related Procedures, starting with #1 for example it makes reference to (pp. II, 1-2) and also states "...locate references on page B-1." It also states "Check answers on page C-1." Similar references are made throughout the document. Can someone who is familiar with these references that I have highlighted in red above please guide me to where I can actually find them? I have come up empty so far. Thank you.
