Bylaws specifically state that membership dues are 5$.
I proposed in writing in triplicate and posted for 30 days that the term "dues" and its amount be stricken from the by laws. For the purpose that the sum is so tiny as to be pointless.
Bylaws state
This Constitution and/or By-Laws may be amended, revised or altered at any
regular or special meeting of the Corporation by a two-thirds (2/3) vote of the
members voting, providing such amendment was proposed in writing, in
triplicate, at a preceding meeting and was posted for twenty-five (25) days.
Vote goes down 12 yay, 4 nay, 3 abstain. Chair announces as a failed vote against the 19 voting eligible members. Mind you 3rd year in any type of parliamentary organization. I didn't and no one else raised a point of order that abstentions do not count towards the 2/3 tally. I've read alot of the forum so far to pretty much understand we are scrooged on the timeliness requirement of points of order.
But I still wish to make it known to the body and the younger members that the wrong was done. Is the best time to do this as a correction to the reading of the minutes?
As in once the minutes are read and the question asked"any additions, corrections?" State that the vote on the by-law was indeed a 2/3rd vote in accordance with our bylaws.
At least to try to avoid a precedent for future votes when I'll know to raise the point of order that we are counting only the voting members and not against all present voting members.
