  1. Again, we are a voluntary HOA and struggling with some interpretations of Roberts Rules. At the meeting last month, a member made a motion, which was voted on and lost. Now a member is claiming that they made a point of order (as the motion should not have been made), but this point of order was not recognized by the Chair, denied, or accepted. What is the proper action for the member to bring this up at the tonight's general meeting? Thank you in advance. this is a great forum!!!11111
  2. We have our annual election tonight of 5/9 Board Members of our VOLUNTARY HOA. We are wondering what activities are permissible to bring before the members while the tabulation by the Tellers is taking place in a private room. E.g., motions to approve the agenda or previous meeting minutes? New motions? It seems "unfair" that the 12 Tellers would not get a chance to vote. Can we cover social activities etc. until the votes are in and then resume the meeting from the top down? This is a contentious election, and we want to make sure we're doing everything correctly. Our Bylaws are silent on meeting activities during counting. (We've never had so many votes to count and usually use 3 tellers!) Advice please and thank you!
  3. Per our Bylaws, a draft agenda is posted on the website BEFORE the General Membership Meeting. At the meeting, the President asks for additions and corrections to the agenda, and then a voice vote is held to accept the draft agenda with changes. Our Bylaws do not specify the following: Is it necessary to identify on the agenda the revisions made to the draft and who suggested them? (The draft agenda will be removed from the website and the amended, approved agenda will be posted as approved agenda on the website.) Must the additions and corrections be submitted as motions by the members? Must each individual addition/revision be seconded and be voted upon with majority approval?
