I am a part of an organization whose members elects 5 individuals to serve as an exective committee. Our bylaws state that each one is elected to a 4 year term and can serve a maximum of 8 years. Our General Assembly takes place every two years. Because of Covid-19, the 2020 General Assembly was cancelled. This created a dilemna. At the 2020 meeting, there is a special order meeting called prior to elections to sort through this. The question is, do we elect to 2 years (Since the bylaws require a maximum term of 8 years) or elect to a two year term, which will cause them to serve a total of eight years (The bylaws call for a 4 year term)
To clarify, I believe they should only be elected this year to a 2 year term to complete the maximum term to be completed in 2024.
What parlimentary procedure can be used to approach this issue?
