I am in a Mardi Gras society. When you join you are given a seniority number. In our bylaws we choose our spots on the float by seniority. This is our 23 year and have done everything by seniority even though it’s not in the bylaws. Our past parliamentarian for many years has always said if you set precedence by voting or choosing tables at the ball as we have done in the past then it doesn’t matter if it’s in the bylaws or not.
We have a new parliamentary and she says if it’s not in the bylaws then the board can choose to do it as they see fit. Can you provide me with where in Roberts Rules who is right on this matter.
