Guest LaurelH Posted February 12, 2011 at 12:39 AM Report Share Posted February 12, 2011 at 12:39 AM Our faculty Senate passed a motion at it's April 15, 2010 meeting for a particular action occur and to implement in Fall of 2011. There are some concerns about the action now that have to due with the timing of it. Does a member need to move to reconsider what was previously approved or can a new item be introduced to change the timing of the action item? The way I'm reading RR it seems like reconsideration is more for the meeting when the vote was taken, but wanted to check. Also, I see that reconsideration cannot be moved when action has been taken on an item, which in this case, substantial action has been taken. If someone still wanted to change the timelines (extend them) what motion or process could they use, in your opinion? Many thanks,LaurelSonoma State University Senate
Josh Martin Posted February 12, 2011 at 12:44 AM Report Share Posted February 12, 2011 at 12:44 AM Does a member need to move to reconsider what was previously approved or can a new item be introduced to change the timing of the action item?Neither. The time for the motion to Reconsider has passed and a new motion which would conflict with the previous motion is out of order. If someone still wanted to change the timelines (extend them) what motion or process could they use, in your opinion? The appropriate tool is the motion to Amend Something Previously Adopted, which requires a 2/3 vote, vote of a majority of the entire membership, or a majority vote with previous notice.
