Guest Shelley Posted February 25, 2011 at 05:06 PM Report Share Posted February 25, 2011 at 05:06 PM We have a club president that is a dictator and has broken at least 8 by-laws since election in December. The majority of the board would like to have him removed. In the by-laws it states that any Executive member may removed for cause, which I think we have him on. No where does it say that we need to take it to a 2/3 vote of the general membership. If we have a quorum at the special meeting of the board, would that be enough to have him removed? The problem with the 2/3 membership vote is that he is deceptive and would tell lies to the general members to come out and vote to keep him in control! We need to have him removed!

We need to have him removed! There may be a difference between removing him as a member of the board and removing him as president of the association. In any case, if he was elected by the general membership, it might be unlikely (though not impossible) that the board has the authority to remove him.As for getting enough votes, that's what debate is for. If you think your president is lying, tell the members the truth.See also FAQ #20.

By default, the authority for discipline rests with the general membership. See FAQ #20.
