Guest amilia Posted March 1, 2011 at 12:29 AM Report Share Posted March 1, 2011 at 12:29 AM Our bylaws have been amended. In the older version, officer's were elected to their positions for a 1 year term. With a few months left of that term, our bylaws were amended to the officer's being appointed by the chief. Which set of bylaws do you follow for the remaining few months? Do the fall under the older version and remain as elected officers or are they now considered as being appointed. Guest amilia Posted March 1, 2011 at 12:36 AM Report Share Posted March 1, 2011 at 12:36 AM That is what I thought, but our president has stated he does not agree and feels he can rule against the new version at our next general meeting using past practices as one reason. Any suggestions?
Josh Martin Posted March 1, 2011 at 12:57 AM Report Share Posted March 1, 2011 at 12:57 AM That is what I thought, but our president has stated he does not agree and feels he can rule against the new version at our next general meeting using past practices as one reason. Any suggestions? The Bylaws trump "past practices." The assembly is obliged to follow the Bylaws as they currently exist. If the President rules incorrectly, be prepared to Appeal from the decision of the chair. A majority vote is sufficient to overturn the chair's ruling.
