David A Foulkes Posted March 30, 2011 at 05:06 PM Report Share Posted March 30, 2011 at 05:06 PM Right away unless a proviso is adopted (RONR pp. 575-576).I would have suggested page 578 as a reference, but that's just me. Tammy - you'll find there that, as Chris H stated, the amendment goes into effect right away unless a proviso as part of the motion states otherwise, or a motion affecting the time the bylaw goes into effect has been previously adopted. I think you'll also often find bylaws that include in the amendment section that amendments go into effect at the adjournment of the meeting at which they are adopted. So do check your own bylaws for any insight into that as well.Bear in mind that while the "effect" of the bylaw may not take place right away (if delayed as noted above), the amendment does become part of the bylaws right away. Well, I reckon we got the bases covered now.
