Kim Goldsworthy Posted April 12, 2011 at 07:07 PM Report Share Posted April 12, 2011 at 07:07 PM Should the recording secretary (member of board) make a motion or second?Yes.A recording secretary does not lose any rights of membership just because the recording secretary is acting as a secretary. You wouldn't ask this question for your treasurer, or vice-president, would you? -- So why single out the poor hard-working secretary? -- Why would a secretary lose out on participation? Robert B Fish Posted April 12, 2011 at 07:24 PM Report Share Posted April 12, 2011 at 07:24 PM ...and in meetings of a board of less than about a dozen, less formal rules are followed. The chairman - along with all the others - can make motions, speak in debate and vote along with the other members. As stated above, the recording secretary would not lose any of the rights of membership because he/she acted as secretary. However, if he was not a member of the board, he would not have any of those rights.-Bob
