Josh Martin Posted April 14, 2011 at 10:45 PM Report Share Posted April 14, 2011 at 10:45 PM Is it a conflict of interest if the treasurer and/or his wife hold paid positions in the society?Well, it violates no rule in RONR, if that's what you're asking. RONR does not define a "conflict of interest."
Kim Goldsworthy Posted April 14, 2011 at 11:01 PM Report Share Posted April 14, 2011 at 11:01 PM Is it a conflict of interest if the treasurer and/or his wife hold paid positions in the society? If there should develop any conflicts of interest, I will grant you that it is possible that someday one may pop up.But that ARRANGEMENT you describe, i.e., (a.) to have a treasurer in office; and (b.) to simultaneously have the SPOUSE of the treasurer be a paid employee;violates no rule in Robert's Rules of Order.Q. What do YOU think is conflicting? Between WHAT and WHAT?• If the employer were to consider this arrangement as a potential conflict of interest, then the employer ought to be free to fire the paid employee, in order to keep the treasurer.• If the body who elected the treasurer were to consider this arrangement as a potential conflict of interest, then the electing body ought to be be free to un-seat the treasurer, in order to keep the employee. But the employer and the electing body are under no obligation to act. Guest stellar* Posted April 15, 2011 at 02:41 AM Report Share Posted April 15, 2011 at 02:41 AM Thank you for your answers. I guess I am in the wrong then. I thought it would be a conflict if you are on the paying and on the receiving end of funds. I was the only one thinking that it might be a conflict of interest, but I might have been wrong. I couldn't find a rule about it, that's why I asked. Just "feels" wrong to me. Thank you again.
