Guest Joseph Posted May 5, 2011 at 05:04 PM Report Share Posted May 5, 2011 at 05:04 PM Is it proper procedure for the Board of Directors to censure a contract employee for walking out of a job which we have paid him for? He is under contract to provide musical direction to our choir and walked out of a rehearsal in order to make a point. We are not planning to pay him for this session but what other disciplinary action can we take. Our bylaws make no mention of action of this nature.Thank you

The board can censure whoever it wants for whatever reason it wants. We are not planning to pay him for this session but what other disciplinary action can we take. Our bylaws make no mention of action of this nature.RONR primarily deals with disciplinary action for officers and members, not employees. From a parliamentary perspective, I think the board can take whatever action it deems appropriate, provided the individual is an employee of the board and the actions do not conflict with the organization's rules or an action of the general membership. But really, if the board is pondering its options for discipline of an employee with a contract, I think you need a lawyer, not a parliamentarian.
