Guest Tom Posted May 18, 2011 at 10:04 PM Report Share Posted May 18, 2011 at 10:04 PM If an Officer, President, directs, takes action contrary to Roberts Rules is there a time limit of raising a POINT Of Order to reverse the NULL and Void Action beyond the next Board Meeting. Like voting electronically when there are no By Law provisions for such voting. Which happened to pass with some NO votes and Abstentions because of Roberts rules on such which those few understood. Kim Goldsworthy Posted May 19, 2011 at 12:56 AM Report Share Posted May 19, 2011 at 12:56 AM If an Officer, President, directs, takes action contrary to Roberts Rules,is there a time limit of raising a POINT Of Order to reverse the NULL and Void Action beyond the next Board Meeting?Yes, there is a time limit. For most things, you have a very short "window of opportunity" to raise a timely point of order. However, see RONR for the exceptions -- See "continuing breach". -- But there are only a very limited number errors which fall under that umbrella.Like voting electronically when there are no Bylaw provisions for such voting.Bingo!THAT is one "continuing breach"!Which happened to pass with some NO votes and Abstentions because of Roberts rules on such which those few understood.OK. Now you know. You can raise a point of order on this, and have that vote ruled upon as being null and void (assuming the chair knows Robert's Rules of Order, and rules correctly). If the chair rules incorrectly, then an APPEAL is still available, as a final straw to grasp.
