Guest Gail Dopp Posted September 22, 2011 at 05:56 PM Report Share Posted September 22, 2011 at 05:56 PM A question has been raised in our group about who should begin and end a meeting when the President is unexpectedly delayed. I am the VP of our group, so I told the President I would begin the meeting in his absence. Towards the end of the meeting, the President finally showed up. I finished the meeting and called it adjourned. The President later told me that I was in violation of procedure by doing that. Should I have stopped the meeting and handed it back over to the President, or was it okay for me to finish the meeting myself, even though the President was there. Thanks for any/all respones.Gail
David A Foulkes Posted September 22, 2011 at 06:20 PM Report Share Posted September 22, 2011 at 06:20 PM Technically, yes you should have relinquished the chair to the President upon his arrival, or perhaps at least at the completion of the item of business that was at hand while you were in the chair. Technically, he should have taken it back. But since apparently no objection was raised at the time, it's water over the dam now.
