Guest Sam Posted October 9, 2011 at 11:19 PM Report Share Posted October 9, 2011 at 11:19 PM At a membership meeting, after the Nominating Committee gave its report, the chair opened nominations from the floor.A member was nominated, and the name was accepted. However, the member was not present at the nomination to accept the nomination, nor did anyone have a letter from the nominee accepting the nomination. Is this allowed? Robert B Fish Posted October 9, 2011 at 11:23 PM Report Share Posted October 9, 2011 at 11:23 PM Yes. No rule in RONR requires that a person indicate his/her willingness to serve in order to be nominated or elected.-Bob
Guest Edgar Posted October 9, 2011 at 11:25 PM Report Share Posted October 9, 2011 at 11:25 PM Is this allowed?Yes. In fact, except for being selected by the nominating committee, there really isn't a procedure for rejecting a nomination. If I nominate Joe Smith, in a sense it's my nomination, not Joe's. The most Joe can do is let everyone know that, if elected, he will not serve. On the other hand, it's a good idea to be sure that this absent nominee will serve if elected or you might end up with an "incomplete" election (i.e. he wins but won't serve) and you'll have to vote again.
