Guest PS23435 Posted November 15, 2011 at 06:54 PM Report Share Posted November 15, 2011 at 06:54 PM Is is proper to make a motion to adopt a standing rule that defines or interprets the by-law requirements to hold office? More specifically, the by-laws require 1 year as a "member" before one is eligible to hold office. The by-laws also provide for a 6 month "probationary membership" during which the probationary member is (according to the by-laws) entitled to "all the rights and privileges of membership except voting." A motion has been made to establish a Standing Rule that the time clock for holding office begins at the time one is accepted into "full membership" vice when probationary membership begins.Am new to all this, so any help, pointers appreciated! However, as RONR defines the term "member," your desired rule would not appear to change the starting of that "clock."
