Is approval from board members required to have visitors at a general board meeting

Our state association has no guidance in our by-laws relating to inviting visitors to general meetings. Are there any guidelines or rules we need to include?

No, you don't need to include any guidelines. Under RONR, the rule is that visitors (nonmembers) may be present only with the assembly's permission (by majority vote). If you want the rule to be something different than that, then you would need to adopt your own rules on the subject (although they wouldn't necessarily need to be in your Bylaws).
