Guest Posted March 29, 2012 at 03:48 PM Report Share Posted March 29, 2012 at 03:48 PM Our Chapter provides that Service Officers have their expenses paid to the State convention. Can it be assumed by the chapter that these individuals attend the convention as delegates without being nominated? Our bylaws also state that all elected delegates have their expenses paid provided funds are available. However those delegates are nominated during the nomination procedure. David A Foulkes Posted March 29, 2012 at 04:53 PM Report Share Posted March 29, 2012 at 04:53 PM All of this deals with what is in your bylaws or other rules, not in RONR. As for assuming, it's never a good policy.
Guest Posted March 29, 2012 at 06:02 PM Report Share Posted March 29, 2012 at 06:02 PM Our bylaws state that delegates will be nominated at the May meeting. Thanks, and you are absolutely right, you should never assume.

Thanks, and you are absolutely right, you should never assume.Assuming the delegates are elected by ballot, couldn't people get elected as write-ins, not having been nominated? If so, aren't they just as much delegates as a nominated person that gets elected?
Guest Posted March 30, 2012 at 02:27 AM Report Share Posted March 30, 2012 at 02:27 AM Absolutely, but the key word is nominated, not assumed to be nominated. A Write in is a nomination of a specific person, not a position.

A Write in is a nomination of a specific person, not a position. My apologies for not being clearer. I meant a write-in vote at the meeting for election of delegates, not at the nomination meeting. If anyone assumes the elected delegates were in fact all nominated prior to the election, that's their problem.
Guest Posted March 30, 2012 at 03:05 PM Report Share Posted March 30, 2012 at 03:05 PM Thanks, but if they are nominated by write-in, can that right in nomination state (example) Service Officers as title, or must the write-in nomination state the individuals name?
