Can a chair of a committee mtg decide he wants to cancel the meeting and cancel it without checking with the other members?
Guest Edgar Posted July 18, 2012 at 06:49 PM Report Share Posted July 18, 2012 at 06:49 PM There is no procedure in RONR for canceling a properly scheduled (i.e. "regular") or called (i.e. "special") meeting. So the short answer to both questions is "no". Steven Britton Posted July 18, 2012 at 11:08 PM Report Share Posted July 18, 2012 at 11:08 PM In addition to Edgar's answer, if a call is issued to a meeting, and enough members show up to establish a quorum, any action taken would be valid regardless of whether someone decided to cancelled the meeting. Can a chair of a committee mtg decide he wants to cancel the meeting and cancel it without checking with the other members?Technically, a properly scheduled meeting cannot be cancelled (as pointed out by the previous posters). This is true even if the president (or chair) DID check with the other members first (I'm emphasizing this point, since the lack of prior consultation with other members seems to be your main gripe). David A Foulkes Posted July 19, 2012 at 11:09 AM Report Share Posted July 19, 2012 at 11:09 AM Technically, a properly scheduled meeting cannot be cancelled (as pointed out by the previous posters).Well, technically it could be canceled, but only due to some authorizing rule found outside RONR. As Edgar notes, there is no procedure in RONR for canceling a meeting. What's found in the bylaws, however -- well......
