Guest Bobby Posted August 7, 2012 at 07:24 PM Report Share Posted August 7, 2012 at 07:24 PM When a meeting agenda has been properly posted, and the meeting is in progress, can a board member call to adjourn the meeting without going all he way through the agenda? Trina Posted August 7, 2012 at 07:26 PM Report Share Posted August 7, 2012 at 07:26 PM A member may move to adjourn at any time, regardless of progress through the agenda. However, it is the decision of the assembly whether to adjourn or not (i.e. the assembly votes on the motion to adjourn) -- not the decision of the board member who 'calls to adjourn the meeting.'Um... I shouldn't say 'at any time' -- it is not in order to make this motion when another member has the floor.

Trina Posted August 7, 2012 at 07:37 PM Report Share Posted August 7, 2012 at 07:37 PM The members present at the meeting make the decision. You didn't say whether the meeting in question was a meeting of the board or of some other body.In any case, the motion to adjourn can be made by any member of the body which is meeting. The body (members present) makes the decision on the motion.
