Guest Edgar Posted January 24, 2013 at 07:52 PM Report Share Posted January 24, 2013 at 07:52 PM No, but it can be very helpful if you know in advance (preferably in writing) that, if elected, they will serve.
David A Foulkes Posted January 24, 2013 at 09:15 PM Report Share Posted January 24, 2013 at 09:15 PM Do candidates need to be present at the time of an election. If a person is elected while not present, when they are notified they can decline the position, thus requiring another round of balloting, which may have to take place at a subsequent meeting. To avoid this potential problem, as Edgar notes, anyone who has been nominated (or even thinks they might be nominated or elected while not present) should notify the President and/or Secretary in advanced of their intent to either accept or decline. That way, if necessary, re-balloting can take place immediately at the election meeting.
