NancyD Posted December 12, 2018 at 09:03 PM Report Share Posted December 12, 2018 at 09:03 PM Where a resolution does not have a person to second it (and the organization has adopted that requirement), in the minutes, does the original resolution and maker get recorded with a notation that the motion is lost due to no seconder or is it not at all recorded? Thanks.
Guest Who's Coming to Dinner Posted December 12, 2018 at 09:11 PM Report Share Posted December 12, 2018 at 09:11 PM RONR says that all main motions that are made should be recorded in the minutes. So this unseconded motion will be recorded with a note that it was not taken up due to lack of a second. You should not say the motion was "lost" because that implies a voting result. But I have seen language that the motion "died" for lack of a second.

Gary Novosielski Posted December 14, 2018 at 07:28 AM Report Share Posted December 14, 2018 at 07:28 AM Quite so. Still, I'd rather be lost than dead. But that's just me. I agree that "lost" would imply that it was voted on.
