Guest Thomas Posted January 12, 2019 at 02:01 PM Report Share Posted January 12, 2019 at 02:01 PM I belong to a commitee that accepted a motion, seconded that motion, discussed the motion and voted on the motion. It passed the motion. Two days later, the chair and one other member dispiuted the passed motion and are now looking to over turn the motion. No vote, no discussion. They just had second thoughts. Can this be done?
jstackpo Posted January 12, 2019 at 02:42 PM Report Share Posted January 12, 2019 at 02:42 PM The chair and his buddy can't overturn the motion on their own. One of them - or any other member - next meeting could move to rescind the motion. That would place the decision in the hands of the committee, where it belongs. Guest Who's Coming to Dinner Posted January 12, 2019 at 03:59 PM Report Share Posted January 12, 2019 at 03:59 PM The only to overturn an adopted motion without debate or vote is by raising a point of order that is well-taken by the chair and not subsequently appealed. Legitimate use of the point or order requires that the motion be in conflict with the bylaws or adopted in a manner that creates on ongoing breach of the rules.
