Adding Appointed Positions

My organization is having trouble getting members to serve in the Treasurer position.  This is partly due to members not being confident they know exactly what has to get done in that office.  Is it a wise to create an appointed Assistant Treasurer's position, with the caveat that the person holding the office would be expected, not required, to run for Treasurer in the next term?  This could allow the person to see first hand what the Treasurer does.  We already have a Financial Secretary.

It is certainly permissible for the society to create a position of this nature. Whether it is wise to do so is a decision for the society to make. Creating such a position will most likely require amending the bylaws.
