chuck clark Posted June 18, 2024 at 06:37 PM Report Share Posted June 18, 2024 at 06:37 PM my question is if a election for president is going on and one of the candidates passes away does the other candidate run unopposed ?
Joshua Katz Posted June 19, 2024 at 12:36 AM Report Share Posted June 19, 2024 at 12:36 AM Well, the deceased candidate is no longer running, but the answer is ultimately maybe, and depends on the rules for nominations. If the rules in RONR apply, nominations from the floor are in order, and if there is a vote by ballot, write-ins are accepted, so not really. But if the local rules for nominations differ, it may be that he winds up unopposed.

Is this a situation where there is multi-day voting, or mail-in ballots, or other form of absentee voting?
