Guest Rob Elsman Posted May 7, 2010 at 04:51 PM Report Share Posted May 7, 2010 at 04:51 PM I'm sorry, but I don't think a question about rules of order in the Sixth Edition (1951) falls within the scope of this forum. See the introductory page to this forum."
Guest H.Wm.Mountcastle Posted May 7, 2010 at 04:56 PM Report Share Posted May 7, 2010 at 04:56 PM >>The new moderator stated that the meeting will be governed by Robert's Rules (75th anniversary edition)<< But what do your bylaws say? The "75th Anniversary Edition" is the 6th edition. The current edition is the 10th edit"
Guest brenda Posted May 7, 2010 at 05:02 PM Report Share Posted May 7, 2010 at 05:02 PM Sorry, I'm new to this! I know there is a difference between reconsider, rescind and amend, but can the moderator decide he will perpetuate a rule that he admits is incorrect? If he does, is there anyway we can "overrule" his decision?
Guest Chris H Posted May 7, 2010 at 05:10 PM Report Share Posted May 7, 2010 at 05:10 PM "can the moderator decide he will perpetuate a rule that he admits is incorrect?" He can if you let him. Guest brenda Posted May 7, 2010 at 05:12 PM Report Share Posted May 7, 2010 at 05:12 PM Thank you. It is a challenge to understand all this when you are new to this form of government (town meeting) but want to get involved. I will review those suggestions. Thank you again!" Guest H.Wm.Mountcastle Posted May 7, 2010 at 05:13 PM Report Share Posted May 7, 2010 at 05:13 PM You can raise a point of order if you think the rules are not being followed. The chair (your "moderator") will rule that your point of order is, or is not, "well taken". You can appeal his ruling and the assembly (the members present)"
Guest H.Wm.Mountcastle Posted May 7, 2010 at 05:16 PM Report Share Posted May 7, 2010 at 05:16 PM >>this form of government (town meeting)<< Just remember that your town meetings are governed by laws and rules that supersede RONR. And an awful lot depends on whether you are a member of the body that is meeting."
