Guest Sheila E Posted July 24, 2010 at 12:34 PM Report Share Posted July 24, 2010 at 12:34 PM We are a local minor sports organisation. Mid last season our President resigned for personal reasons. The VP did not want the President position and a compromise was made for co-presidents between the VP and another board member. At the AGM, there were no nomminations for president. The VP took another board position. The other co-president agreed to be acting president until a candidate could be found. The resigned president took the past president position. Is this correct? Should it have been the VP? Will it be the acting president if another candidate is found?
hmtcastle Posted July 24, 2010 at 12:39 PM Report Share Posted July 24, 2010 at 12:39 PM Is this correct? No, nothing you describe is correct.Firstly, the vice-president became the president the moment the president's resignation was accepted. He had no choice (other than to resign as president himself).Secondly, you can't have "co-presidents" unless your bylaws provide for them (and they shouldn't).Thirdly, there is no "acting" president. You're either president or you're not. Finally, the (immediate) past president is whoever was president just before the current president. Good luck figuring that one out! Just about everything you describe is inconsistent with RONR.

The other co-president agreed to be acting president until a candidate could be found."Strike three!"The resigned president took the past president position. Is this correct?Should it have been the VP?Will it be the acting president if another candidate is found?"Past president position"? Unless you've defined the past president position in a very unique way, there is no flexibility regarding who gets to hold the title of "immediate past president."
