E-Mail Voting

Our Board of Directors has decided to continue using e-mail voting even though our condo association by-laws are silent about this issue. Despite advising our Board last week that e-mail voting is not allowed per RONR 10th edition page 408 lines 30-35 and page 409 lines 1-17, the current Board Vice President, with support from the President, stated e-mail voting will continue to be used because there have been no issues in the past with using e-mail voting and this policy will continue.

What are possible ramification to the Board when the Board knowingly continues to allow e-mail voting in violation of the by-laws, and what possible remidies, other than amending the by-laws, might be suggested to cease this activity?

See FAQ #20 and get yourselves some board members who will follow the rules.

"Ramifications"?

They risk all their adopted motions becoming null and void, upon one timely point of order.

That's the ramification of immediate concern.

"Remedies"?

I can't solve collective ignorance in one silver bullet.

Just as you cannot make someone read who refuses to learn how to read, you cannot make someone learn proper parliamentary procedure if they are not willing to learn proper parliamentary procedure.

"A man who refuses to read has no advantage over someone who cannot read."
