Guest Guest Posted November 9, 2010 at 03:45 AM Report Share Posted November 9, 2010 at 03:45 AM What Authority does a President have in a volunteer fire company if it is not spelled out in by-laws?Does the President have the authority to go to the bank and request account information and recieve even though he or she is not on the accounts ?According to our by-laws it states what ever is not cover in by-laws refer to Roberts Rule of Order. The questions above and this one refers to the authority of the President of the organization,; here is the President by-law as stated: It is the duty of the President to preside at all meetings, to sign all warrants, appoint all committees pretaining to the organization [except fire fighting equipment and operations]. To interrupt all laws and regulations of the Company: to make all new members aware of the fire company by-laws. He or she may not serve more than [3] three years in succession. Kim Goldsworthy Posted November 9, 2010 at 10:42 AM Report Share Posted November 9, 2010 at 10:42 AM What authority does a President have in a volunteer fire company if it is not spelled out in by-laws?Under Robert's Rules of Order, a president has the duty to act as the presiding officer at all meetings. And that's it.Robert's Rules of Order has a long list of duties for CHAIRMEN, but not necessarily PRESIDENTS. - i.e., within-meeting behavior.Does the President have the authority to go to the bank and request account information and receive [it?],even though he or she is not on the accounts? No. You won't find anything close to that within the 700+ pages of Robert's Rules of Order Newly Revised (tenth edition). You've jumped outside of a meeting context. - Look elsewhere for such authority, because RONR won't contain such exo-meeting excursions.
