Guest Luc Pomerleau Posted September 26, 2016 at 11:10 PM Report Share Posted September 26, 2016 at 11:10 PM Is it possible to initiate a vote of non confidence at a meeting using rules of Roberts. If so what would have to be the vote/ 50% +1?
Richard Brown Posted September 26, 2016 at 11:19 PM Report Share Posted September 26, 2016 at 11:19 PM See FAQ No 7: http://robertsrules.com/faq.html#7 The vote required would be a majority vote, not 50% plus one. Majority means more than half. Period. A majority vote is more yes votes than no votes. It would be based on a majority vote of those present and voting. As noted in the answer to the FAQ, a vote of "no confidence" really doesn't accomplish anything other than expressing disapproval.
Transpower Posted September 27, 2016 at 12:22 PM Report Share Posted September 27, 2016 at 12:22 PM Related to this issue is that the assembly can remove the chair for all or part of a session by majority vote; see RONR (11th ed.), pp. 651-653. I disagree, at least in part. If the chair is the regular elected chairman, it requires a two-thirds vote to remove him from presiding at a meeting. A chairman Pro Tem or someone who is not the regular presiding officer can be removed with a majority vote

As noted in the pages cited, a majority vote will suffice only if the chair is an appointed or elected chairman pro tem. If not, a motion to suspend the rules must be used, which will require a two-thirds vote for its adoption.
