Can a Board member be nominated from the floor and be elected to office without that individual being present to accept? Does the nominee need to be present or at least have a letter of intent to serve presented to the voting membership? Can someone carrying a proxy for that indivual accept for them??

Thank You

No rule in RONR requires the nominee to be present, to have a 'letter of intent' and to have a proxy accept for him/her.

No rule in RONR even requires a nominee to consent to being nominated.

Further, unless your bylaws specifically allow the use of proxies, they are NOT allowed.

That, said, there is also no prohibition in having a person present to speak on your behalf and say that, if elected, you plan to serve to the best of your ability, etc.

Yes, no, and see the first two answers.

No member needs to be present to be nominated or elected, however if he knows he will be nominated and does not want to serve, it's polite to let the membership know in advance. Once elected (if not present), the member can decline the position once notified, and you are left with an incomplete election and need to have another round of voting at the next meeting.
